After we toured St. Patrick's Cathedral, we made our way to The Brazen Head, the oldest pub in Dublin. We had a Guinness, of course, and a delicious burger. We ate outdoors, amongst the beautiful flowers and atmosphere. After a bit of morning drizzle, it was quite warm!
A lot of walking today...we decided to walk to Grafton Street, which is a retail district... Not really in the mood to shop we just walked through then called a cab to take us to Kilmainham Gaol, the old prison. We toured the prison and we were in awe of the cold, awful prison cells. A prison that was built to hold 100 at a time had 20,000 prisoners. The youngest prisoner was 5 YEARS OLD! Those of you that know me, know that I'm fascinated by prisons.... This was very interesting to me! After an interesting tour, we made our way back to the hotel to change for dinner.
Best night ever! We made our way to Oliver St. John Gogarty pub in Temple Bar. We had an authentic Irish dinner which was delicious. I had Dublin prawns and Tom had Author's casserole, which was a beef stew that was marinated in..... Guinness, of course! After dinner we walked around Temple Bar, then ended up back at Oliver St. John for another beer and Irish music. The music was awesome...what is it about Irish music that makes you want to clap your hands and stomp your feet? Also, while we were there we found another group from....Maryland!!! Small world! I went over to talk to them... They were from Baltimore. So much excitement and so much fun... A girl in the audience clearly skilled in Irish dance showed her stuff for everyone! What fun!
While the band was on a break... There was an Irish dance exhibition. I've seen Riverdance, but there is something about seeing Irish dance in a pub in Ireland that is just much better!!! What a fun day and night!!
Tomorrow, we are off on a new adventure to Belfast... We will head to Derry and Giants Causeway on our way. I sure hope Tom can drive on the right side of the car on the left side of the road!!
